For us, deciding to cut the cable cord wasn’t easy. There were many times I thought about turning our cable TV back on because we hated missing live sports – especially during football season.
We are huge Pittsburgh Steelers fans in our house, so missing a game is a really big deal.
So when I heard about the new Hulu with Live TV streaming service I didn’t hesitate to sign up for a free trial! Today, I’ll cover our experience using Hulu with Live TV and everything you need to know before you subscribe.
What is Hulu with Live TV?
If you’re not already familiar with Hulu, for years it was the only legitimate way to stream your favorite TV shows. Episodes are typically available the day after it aires on TV.
With Hulu’s standard plan, you get access to full episodes of exclusive series, classic favorites, Hulu Original series, current episodes, kids shows, hit movies, and tons more to stream on almost any device!
But now, Hulu has a new streaming service available, Hulu with Live Tv. And in my opinion, it’s the best alternative to cable. Perfect for families (like yours!) looking for a cheaper way to watch Live TV!
How many Hulu Live Tv Channels do I get?
Hulu Live Tv comes with 50+ top Live TV and On Demand channels for sports, entertainment, news, and more!
Some of the most popular networks in the channel lineup include ESPN, CNN, Disney, Cartoon Network, Food Network, and HGTV, though local channels vary by location.
Hulu with Live TV vs Cable TV
When it comes to price, Hulu with Live TV is free for one week, then $39.99 per month. Your base package includes:
- 50+ Live and On Demand Tv Channels
- Unlimited access to Hulu streaming library
- 50 hours of cloud DVR storage for recording LIVE Tv
If you want to watch Hulu’s streaming library commercial-free, increase your DVR storage, and have unlimited screen viewing it’ll cost you about $75/month. Although that’s still way less than paying for traditional cable or satellite TV, it’s a little more than what I want to pay for TV.
And if you add premium channels like HBO, Cinemax, and Showtime your monthly total will be just over $100.
So is Hulu with Live TV worth the price?
Compared to Hulu’s standard plan, Hulu with Live TV is a great upgrade! But when you consider all the add-ons, it may cost you just as much as a cable TV package.
The good news is you can choose which add-ons you’d like, so if you ever change your mind, you can downgrade without worry because there are no contracts, hidden fees, or special equipment to rent!
But if you just want to save money, choosing the base package is STILL a fabulous deal. You can sign up to try Hulu with Live TV for 7 days FREE here!
What You Need To Get Started
Before you can start watching live TV on Hulu you’ll need a high-speed internet connection and a supported device like Fire Tv Stick – that’s it!
Here’s a list of more supported devices:
- Mac & PC
- Apple (iOS 10 or newer)
- Android (5.0 or newer)
- Fire Tv & Fire Stick
- Apple TV (4th gen)
- XBOX One & XBOX 360
- and Samsung (select TV models).
Side note: You can only watch on up to two screens at a time, so if you need to stream on multiple devices at the same time, you’ll need to upgrade to Unlimited Screens so no one is fighting over what to watch! 😉
We’ve been using it for a few months now and we haven’t had any buffering or lagging issues. I seriously cannot recommend Hulu Live TV enough!
I have to admit, I never thought we’d find a better alternative to cable that actually fits our budget and our entertainment needs. My kids still enjoy their favorite cartoons, my husband can watch live sports all season long, and I get to catch episodes of my tv shows when they air. Everyone wins!
And you can too – click here to start your free trial now!
